15th March 2021 junior and senior assemblies

Finally, I am getting to speak to you all!    It has been an interesting term with regards to COVID changes, tsunami warning, fire drills (that we hadn’t planned), and I would like to thank you all for your co-operation and adapting and carrying on as best you can.

Firstly though I would like to acknowledge Simon Norris’ passing and thank everyone who had Simon in their thoughts, attended the funeral or performed in Kapa Haka.  The funeral was a sad but beautiful time and we were so proud of you all. A special thanks to the Kapa Haka rangatahi who pulled all of this together in a very short time.

The arch deacon who was co-ordinating the service talked about us acknowledging the loss and the grief and also celebrating Simon’s life and the contribution he made to his family, friends and our school.  Moment of silence here - please stay seated.  He also talked about moving on and continuing with our lives; not forgetting Simon. Let’s remember also the trauma that Gage has suffered and be ready to support him.

This starts with us being kind and respectful to each other (and our staff), trying our best in and out of class, asking for help if we need it (in the classroom but also in other areas of life including if you're having a tough time - please talk to your mentor teacher, Dean, we are here to support you), joining in - playing sport, being in production, joining the school council (anyone can be part of this every B week Tuesday lunchtime), join the drone club.  Challenge yourself to try something new and see what you think.  I would also like to advertise for the Volunteer Student Army.  Nearly everyone in our school would have completed 5 hours of voluntary work and if you haven’t get going.  Community is one of our ARCH values and giving back is one of the most rewarding things you can do.  Plus VSA offers you an excellent opportunity to add to your CV to get apprenticeships, jobs, scholarships, and you get excellent free badges!

Kia pai wiki - have a great week
