Welcome to Week 8


Myself, Jayne and Rowan have met to look carefully at our calendar and set dates for the rest of the year.  However, we are mindful that things might change and we appreciate your support if they have to. 



IMPORTANT CALENDAR DATES FOR THE END OF THE YEAR

  • Wednesday, November 17 - Last day for senior students

  • Wednesday 17th November: Senior Prizegiving

  • Monday 22nd November - NZQA exams start

  • Thursday 2nd December - Yr 13 Leavers' Dinner 

  • Friday 10 December - Junior Prizegiving 11.30 -12.30pm - last day of school for juniors 

  • Exams finish 14 December

 

SPORTS

Maddy Crawford  will keep you updated as soon as we hear anything about sports.  We are keeping our fingers crossed that nationals will go ahead for basketball.

WEST COAST SECONDARY & AREA SCHOOL  PRINCIPALS’ ASSOCIATION 

I met with the high school and area school principals from the West Coast on Tuesday.  It was really good to share our stories and to support each other.  The more we work together for our area the better!  

SUPPORT

If you need any support please talk to your mentor teacher, Dean, our Guidance counsellors or Bob or Shona.  We all need some help at times and they are all working really hard to try and make Level 3 a bit easier.

Please note, this is a guide and shows how MSD can help a person or whānau. Once the application form is submitted, MSD will be able to work out the exact financial assistance they will receive. This service is only available to New Zealand citizens and residents.

A reminder that Mummhg’s kai are shutting up shop from the end of term 3.   If anyone is interested in taking over the cafe please contact Raewyn on

STAFF

We are delighted to announce that Ian Johnson from Christchurch is joining us on secondment starting in week 10 of this term.  He has lots of knowledge of secondary education in large schools in Christchurch as well as overseas.  His wife Lisa and their 2 dogs are also joining him and as always we are on the lookout for accommodation.   If you know of any accommodation for them please let us know.

2021 Week 1, Term 1

I hope that all of you managed to have fun and find some time to relax over the Christmas break. As I was appointed in early December I spent a lot of December organising my handover to various members of staff from my previous school, Te Aroha College. I also spent some time talking with Andy England and other members of the Senior Leadership team trying to ensure a smooth handover. In January myself and my family spent two weeks touring around the South Island. We even managed to come to Greymouth where I met up with some of my new colleagues, spent an hour or so at Grey High and an hour with Andy as he packed. We had fabulous weather on our trip around, including while we were in Greymouth, and we were told by many West Coasters that

2021 Week 4, Term 1

Tēnā koutou katoa Nga mihi nui ki a koutou As we all know we are back at Level 2. We are so fortunate to be here in the West Coast! This week has been a good week in terms of “getting things done” at school but we are looking forward to week 6 and being back at Level 1. Thank you again for all your support with our young people and making sure that we all behave in responsible ways to keep us all safe. I am now reflecting on last week and the great things that happened since our last newsletter. On Thursday we held our first of the year whānau hui for all Ngā Here Kahikatea rangatahi. The whare was full to the brink! It was a fantastic experience and I was so proud of all the rangatahi and the progress they have made. A massive thank you to Kylie, Joe, Gordie and the other kaiako who are making this work well for our rangatahi. Also ka pai to those who made the kai! There are many exciting things happening in Ngā Here Kahikatea including a planned hangi and te reo classes on a Saturda
