English department - Mean Girls Maths department - Ghost Busters MRS SAMANTHA MORTIMER — DEC 2, 2021 Tēnā koutou katoa Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou ACCORD DAY We had a fantastic teacher only day on Tuesday 30th November. We always try to do something fun and Kate Cronin, our teacher in charge of staff wellbeing, organised each department to dress up in fancy dress based on a movie. We had Maths as Ghostbusters, Tech as the Pink Ladies from Grease, Languages as Mean Girls, Supported Learning as witches, The Arts as Aladdin, PE department as T-birds from Grease, Science as Lord of the Rings and SLT as Texas Chainsaw Massacre. It was good fun and I promise you that we did lots of learning as well! T4 Week 6 Tēnā koutou katoa Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou Senior Prize Givings A quick reflection on prize giving. I know it wasn’t exactly what we wanted but it was still amazing! Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the occasions as special as we could! The students were amazing and the year 13 event was really great with tables, buffet food and a lovely atmosphere. Year 13 last day Hopefully you saw the photos in the paper about the Y13 last day. It was such a fun time! The year 13 prank selling the school online was brilliant and I laughed so much. Very clever! Thanks especially go to the Fire Brigade for sending the fire truck for the slip and slide - very much appreciated! Quad Activities Days Our thanks goes to Maddy Crawford who has organised four Quad days for our junior students (2 for year 9 and 2 for year 10). I have loved my first year as Principal here at Grey High and cannot thank the whole community enough for making me feel so welcome on the coast. I am sad that our whānau can’t be with us in person today but hopefully technology will enable you to feel a little bit like you are! Rangatahi/students Firstly, I need to talk about you, our amazing rangatahi. You have blown me away with your kindness, respect and the ability to get on with things. Demonstrating our ARCH values of Akoranga Respect Community and Hauora And this is something that we should all strive to do. Do we all get everything right? No, but I am very proud of how you have all developed and grown this year even when things were tough. Receiving a Principal’s Award is a big deal and I have really enjoyed going into everyone's classes to hand them out. Their classmates have been really supportive too; always clapping and cheering as I shake hands with them! Senior end of year events - our current plan remains the same as last week! As I write this we are keeping the same plans as we had last week - let’s keep our fingers crossed! COVID VACCINATION REGISTRATIONS FOR STUDENTS AND VOLUNTEERS Students We will be sending out an email asking you to complete a Google Form to ask if your child/children has had their first or second vaccine dose, or is exempted from being vaccinated. newsletter T4 Week 3 Tēnā koutou katoa Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou Young Enterprise West Coast Regional Awards I had a fantastic time at the awards! A huge Congratulations goes to all of our rangatahi who completed their final parts of their assessments by presenting their final pitches for their enterprise projects. They all did amazingly and totally characterised our ARCH values. I was so proud of all of them. The overall West Coast Regional Winner was: Papatuanuku Sports Kits - sports Kits promoting Baseball5™. The CEO was Joel McKay and the CFO, Dom Cate. Well deserved!! We are getting into the swing of things at the end of the year. Thanks to all of our staff who are putting in the hard yards to work with our rangatahi so they can be successful in their goals. Inter school sports We are sorry to tell you that we are not going to do any inter school sports in Term 4. We are really sad about this as we know how much our students love it! We also know how much work Maddy Crawford, our wonderful sports coordinator, has put into organising these events. However, we have been working with Maddy and she is going to organise some intramural games for our juniors this term instead. Thank you Maddy. From the principal: 2021 Week 1, Term 4 MRS SAMANTHA MORTIMER — OCT 21, 2021 T4 Week 1 Tēnā koutou katoa Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou Welcome to Week . I cannot believe that I have been here for nearly a year! It has been an interesting one to say the least, and our rangatahi are doing an awesome job being flexible and resilient all at the same time! NCEA parent-teacher interviews (online) - Term 4, week 1 Thank you to all the parents who went online to meet their child’s teachers. As always if you do want to make face to face meetings please contact your child’s dean and/or class teachers by email to do so. End of year events We are all working hard to organise our end of year events whether they are both in person or online. We want the best for our rangatahi, especially those who are leaving. Thank you in advance for all of your patience while we make these difficult decisions which for the most part out of our hands. Cafe We are hoping that our cafe will be up and running in week 3 -
