Tēnā koutou katoa Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou Welcome back to Term 3. We hope that you have had a restful and even occasionally fun break! I was lucky to start my break watching the Junior girls netball team playing in the South Island Junior netball tournament in Christchurch. They played so well and did our school proud both on and off the court. New staff members We welcome Richard Bell who is with us until the end of Term 4. He is taking on a number of different classes, including year 10 Global Studies, but he is mainly going to do relief for us. We also welcome back Shona Preston as our Guidance Counsellor on Thursdays and Fridays. New roles A reminder that Kiri Russell is going to be our Trades Co-ordinator so if you need any support with your rangatahi please see her. Shoshy Perchig is our Gateway and Work Experience Coordinator and again if you need support in these areas please see her. Back in December last year I started talking to Andy England about our hand over 2021. He told me that he had met someone over the hill who he thought would be great to work with Greymouth High School. I had to work out what Andy meant by over the hill and here a hill meant a ginormous mountain range. However, that’s ok I’m slowly getting it. Anyway, after a few more conversations with Andy we talked again about the person he had met and he told me that was Angus....

MRS SAMANTHA MORTIMER — JUL 1, 2021 Tēnā koutou katoa Ngā mihi nui ki a koutou Welcome to Term 2 week 9. West Coast Secondary Schools Junior Netball On Friday of week 8 I went down to Hokitika and managed to catch our Junior games first game versus Westland High School. It was a great game to watch and they are a nice little team! What most impressed me was their respect not only for the other players but also for the umpires. Ka mau te wehi! Forty Hour Famine Clark Fountain organised a 40 hour famine activity at school. He did a fantastic job of planning and rallying both rangatahi and kaiako. Special thanks to Sian Utton who stayed with the students for the whole time and Nicki Mora from the Shed who supported Clark with the organisation. Young Enterprise Pitches Way back on the Friday of week 6 I was fortunate to be invited to watch some of our rangatahi present their Young Enterprise pitches. I was only going to stay for a short time but I moved some meetings around and stayed right to the end as I was so impressed. Our young people were so articulate and as I said to our staff at briefing on Monday “the world is going to be ok! These young people will make sure it is going to be!” That evening I went and bought a dog collar and lead from “West Coast Collie Co” who did a great presentation and brought their dog along - check them out on Facebook. I also saw AH Beerscuits present - another company I am going to buy from for my dog! Support staff morning tea On Wednesday we had a morning tea for our support staff to thank them for all the amazing things they do for us and our school. Thanks to our volunteer teachers who are doing their jobs during the break so our support staff could enjoy their morning tea in peace!! Assemblies on Monday Below is a summary of what I talked about in our junior and senior assemblies. Respect As you know, one of our school values is respect - showing respect by caring for ourselves, each other, guests, and our environment. Recently, I had 3 year 12 health students come and see about the results of their survey on bullying and to talk to me about what we as a school could do.
